Great care has been taken in creating your jewellery. To protect it and contribute to its longevity, there are a few tips to follow:
Store your jewellery separately and in its original packaging as metals and stones can scratch when they come into contact with each other. Do not let your jewellery come into contact with household detergents or other chemical products and take care when spraying perfume.
Sterling silver jewellery: Although our sterling silver jewellery is coated with an anti-tarnish solution, once exposed to the atmosphere it may tarnish. To restore the original brilliance of the surface, we recommend using a non-abrasive silver polishing cloth, available from our stores.
Gold jewellery: To preserve the shine of gold jewellery, use a non-abrasive gold polishing cloth also available from our stores.
Stones/beaded jewellery: Check the security of any stone set jewellery by shaking the item close to your ear. If there is a slight rattle the stone/s are no longer secure in their setting and should be checked instore.
Friendship bracelets: Our Friendship Bracelets are hand-made by weaving colourful threads around individual bars of sterling silver. To care for your friendship bracelet, hand-wash with a mild detergent or shampoo and dry thoroughly away from direct heat.
Leather: Our leather is hand finished to create supple but hardwearing leather. With the correct care and treatment it should last a lifetime. If your item gets wet for any reason, blot the spill or water and allow to dry naturally. Do not expose it to direct sunlight or heat as this may cause the colour to fade. Cleaning should be restricted to a dry cloth. We would advise against the use of cleaning products containing alcohol or solvents. Everyday use may cause smudges to patent leather but will wipe clean with a soft, dry or damp cloth. When not in use, leather items should be stored in their original packaging.
Diamonds and precious stones: We advise against wearing it when in contact with extreme temperatures and rugged services. Stones may become loose over time and we recommend periodic examinations to assess the security of settings.Gentle cleaning is recommended with non-abrasive jewellery cleaner and we advise against ultrasonic cleaning. To clean diamond jewellery, we recommend gentle brushing with a mild solution of one part ammonia to six parts water.White gold can be cleaned in the same way as yellow gold. Since white gold is not truly a white metal it is possible that in years to come the item, in particular the rings shank may take on a dulled tone. When this occurs the ring can simply be re-rhodium plated and it will look brand new.
Stainless steel jewellery: Stainless steel has a high resistance to corrosion or rusting associated with exposure to water and humidity. Regular cleaning with a soft cloth is all that is needed as stainless steel does not oxidise or tarnish.
Repairs, cleaning & restyling: Some items can be repaired in store while others will need to be sent away. We can either post these back to you or you can collect in store. We also offer an in store bracelet re-stringing service. Most cleaning can be carried out in our stores and we also sell silver and gold cleaning cloths for home use. However, should your item need a specialist clean then we can arrange for this to be done. Another way to put the sparkle back into your favourite jewellery is to consider a restyle which our staff will be happy to advise you on.
Cleaning: All of our stores and concessions are more than happy to assist with restoring the original brilliance and shine of any Links of London piece. Feel free to take your jewellery into your local branch and our store staff will be able to advise further. We also offer professional cleaning services via an independent repairer.
Restringing: A number of our designs, including our iconic Sweetie bracelet, can be restrung to ensure that you can continue to enjoy your bracelet year after year. Should your bracelet require a re-stringing service then please return to any of our Links of London stores or concessions with all of the components of the piece and our teams will be able to carry this out for you. Please note that should any of the links need to be replaced then this will carry an additional cost.
