A Mother's Day Wish

Edited - March 8, 2017

In the run up to Mother’s Day we are proud to support Make-A-Wish® UK through the donation of 10% of all charms purchased between 5th – 25th March. Make-A-Wish grants hundreds of wishes every year and these wishes not only have a positive effect on the child but also their loving families. Join us as we hear from mum Michelle Harnwell about her son Ben's very special wish.

The Wish

Michelle's son Ben was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in 2011 was he was just five. When his family turned to the charity, his dearest wish was to be a chef.

Ben was picked up by stretch limousine, which made him feel like a superstar, and driven to Le Bistro Beaumartin in Glasgow where his grandma Celia was waiting for him! There, Ben was introduced to Chef Andre Stott who presented him with his very own chef outfit and taught Ben how to make a special buffet for his family!

Chef Ben

Ben was an incredible chef and made homemade pizza.

Michelle said: "Make-A-Wish touches the hearts of children who are going through things other people may never understand. Ben’s wish was really special and we have wonderful memories to look back on. Make-A-Wish gives children confidence, smiles and happiness. A wish is more than that though – it is about independence and achieving something, which is amazing. A wish isn’t something you get every day, which makes it very special.”

Ben's Mum

Michelle wrote a letter to Ben to tell him how proud she was to be his mum, saying:

“When you were given the opportunity to cook with a professional chef thanks to Make-A-Wish, your chest puffed up like a peacock. Your face when you served those dishes to us was priceless! That’s when I saw it in your face that we had our Ben back - the little boy who has a love and a passion to learn.”

This magical wish was an amazing day for Ben, his mum Michelle and the whole family. Wishes help to improve the quality of life for the child and their family and gives them a special memory that they will never forget. We are extremely proud to partner with Make-A-Wish and your donation can help make more wishes come true.
