Expert care has been taken in creating your jewellery; so to protect and keep it looking beautiful, here are a few simple care tips to follow:
Store your jewellery separately (and in its original packaging) as metals and stones can scratch when they come into contact with each other.
Avoid your jewellery coming into direct contact with perfume, household detergents or other chemical products.
We also recommend removing your jewellery before showering, bathing, exercising, swimming (in the sea or chlorinated water) and when on the beach, too.
18 Kt Gold Jewellery: To preserve the shine of gold jewellery, use a non-abrasive gold polishing cloth (available to buy in store). 18kt white-gold jewellery is traditionally rhodium plated, which can wear over time but can be re-plated again.
Sterling Silver Jewellery: Our sterling silver jewellery is coated with an anti-tarnish solution; however, it may naturally tarnish a little over time. To restore its original brilliance, we recommend cleaning with a non-abrasive silver polishing cloth (available to buy in-store).
18 Kt Gold Plated Vermeil Sterling Silver: Our beautiful gold vermeil jewellery is crafted from sterling silver and plated with a layer of 18 kt gold over 2.5 microns thick. As you wear your vermeil jewellery, the gold layer will wear slightly and its colour will gradually change over time. To help preserve the original colour, dry your jewellery immediately if it gets wet and avoid it coming into contact with perfume, household cleaners and any other chemicals or abrasives. Polish your piece occasionally with a soft lint-free or microfibre cloth to maintain its shine, too.
Stainless Steel Jewellery: Stainless steel has a naturally high resistance to corrosion and rusting (associated with exposure to water and humidity. We recommend regular cleaning with a soft cloth to maintain its appearance as stainless steel does not oxidise or tarnish.
Stones: Stones may naturally loosen over time, so we recommend periodic examinations to assess the security of settings. To protect your precious jewellery, avoid wearing it in extreme temperatures and during extreme activities. To clean stones, we recommend using a soft brush with warm water and a mild detergent to gently loosen any dirt or grease. For pearls and opals, use a damp soft cloth to clean.
We do not recommend home electronic machines to clean your jewellery.
Sweetie, Sweetheart and Effervescence Bracelets: Our iconic Sweetie and Effervescence Bracelets are strung on silicon elastic. Silicon elastic will wear over time, discolouring and eventually loosing elasticity. We therefore recommend a re-string every year to maintain its structure. Please visit one of our Links of London stores or an authorised Links of London stockist – or contact Customer Care – to arrange a re-string. Please note that should any of the links need to be replaced then this will carry an additional cost.
Friendship Bracelets: Our Friendship Bracelets are hand-made by weaving colourful threads around individual bars of sterling silver or gold vermeil plated sterling silver metals. To clean the thread of your Friendship Bracelet, hand-wash with a mild detergent or shampoo, rinse thoroughly and dry away from direct heat.
Leather: Our leather is hand-finished for a supple but hardwearing effect. Always avoid direct contact with water, but if your piece does get wet, blot the water and allow it to dry out naturally. Do not expose to direct sunlight or heat as this may cause the leather to dry and colour to fade. Clean with a dry cloth, we advise against the use of cleaning products containing alcohol or solvents.
Repairs and Cleaning: While some items can be repaired in store, certain repairs will need to be sent to one of our authorised repairers. We offer an in-store bracelet re-stringing service for Sweetie and Effervescence Bracelets. Most cleaning can be carried out in-store (we also sell silver and gold cleaning cloths for home use), however, if your jewellery needs a specialist clean then we can arrange this for you.
